Editorial Development Plan
Short- and Medium-Term Goals (2024–2028)
According to SciELO’s editorial policy recommendations, “a critical component of editorial management is the Editorial Development Plan (EDP), which outlines actions, required resources, and desired outcomes for the next 3 to 5 years.”
General Premises and Foundations
-
Strengthen the "journal culture" within the field of Law, based on the premise that cutting-edge scientific output should primarily be disseminated through peer-reviewed, indexed, and certified academic journals.
-
Contribute to the establishment of research networks in Criminal Procedure Law (e.g., Brazilian Seminar of Theses in Criminal Sciences).
-
Promote the consolidation of a network of law journals committed to international standards of peer-review rigor, research integrity, and national and international scholarly impact.
-
Encourage and organize events focused on research, publishing, and editorial practices in legal scholarship.
Publications
-
Prioritize and proactively support the publication of research grounded in empirical data and/or offering concrete proposals for solving real-world issues in Brazil’s criminal justice system.
-
Implement measures to enhance gender, racial, and regional diversity among published authors.
-
Promote direct and constructive scholarly debate by encouraging responses to published articles (e.g., “scientific commentary” section).
Open Science and Transparency
-
Gradually implement practices to increase transparency and openness, aligning with Open Science principles.
-
Expand the acceptance and dissemination of preprints and postprints, consistent with the journal’s recently updated editorial policy.
-
Encourage data sharing through open Data Repositories or as supplementary material published alongside articles in RBDPP.
-
Promote the publication of peer review reports in the “scientific commentary” section.
Indexing and Impact
-
Maintain RBDPP’s indexing in SciELO Brazil, Redalyc, Web of Science, and Scopus, while taking proactive steps to enhance the journal’s impact.
-
Sustain a high-level ranking in Brazil’s Qualis journal classification system for Law.
Internationalization
-
Continue the policy of organizing special issues primarily coordinated by international associate editors with strong academic profiles and integration into global research networks.
-
Increase visibility and engagement among international legal scholars.
-
Implement proactive strategies to increase the number of articles published in English.
Funding
-
Seek public funding through national or international grant programs for scientific journals.
-
Evaluate the possibility of private institutional funding, provided it is compatible with academic integrity standards and maintains the journal’s editorial independence.
Editorial Team, Advisory Board, and Peer Reviewers
-
Expand the editorial team as needed to manage submission volume, through open calls for new editors.
-
Continuously diversify and renew the pool of peer reviewers, prioritizing gender, racial, and regional equity while strengthening international participation.
-
Promote active engagement of advisory board members in core editorial matters, including future special issues and appeal decisions.
Scientific Communication and Outreach
-
Develop a Journal Outreach and Marketing Plan to maximize the impact of published research, including outreach to broader non-academic audiences.
-
Increase the journal’s presence on social media and promote the use of academic social networks among authors.
-
Implement strategies to expand the influence of published research on legislative processes and judicial decisions in Brazil.
-
Foster interaction among researchers involved with the journal through discussion forums and a possible dedicated online platform.
-
Organize an annual event to discuss published research.
-
Promote outreach and engagement with published articles through webinars and/or a podcast.
-
Release press communications announcing new issues and articles (e.g., via Agência Bori or Nexo Políticas Públicas).
