Editorial of the dossier “Judicial reforms and criminal bureaucracies in Latin America”: Discomfort in judicial culture: inequalities, incomprehension, and cynicism in courts

In this presentation to the dossier “Judicial reforms and penal bureaucracies in Latin America”, we will attempt to analyze some of the changes that have occurred within the judiciary in recent decades. To do so, we will examine concepts such as misunderstanding, inequality, institutional decline, intellectual ineptitude, and judicial cynicism. In this regard, we will seek to avoid simplistic reasoning about the underlying dynamics that currently shape part of the daily functioning of the courts in periods of sad passions.
